WINTER CONCERT IN THE PARK PROGRAM ON SUNDAY, DECEMBER 9, 2018 AT 3 PM

In the second subscription concert performance of our 2018-2019 season, the National Concert Band of America takes you back to memories of community band concerts in the park where the musical program offered music to satisfy everyone’s taste. This concert will take place at Carl Sandburg Middle School, 8428 Fort Hunt Road, Alexandria VA 22308 on Sunday, December 9, 2018 at 3 PM.

After our usual Opener and National Anthem, Associate Conductor Bill Terry and the National Concert Band of America offer a rousing march by Fucik entitled “The Florentiner March” Following this is one of the great old pieces of wind band literature, “The Universal Judgement” by Camille DeNardis. It’s encore is the “King Cotton March” by John Philip Sousa. Since this is partly a “Holiday” program we offer Alfred Reed’s arrangement of “Greensleeves.” In honor of December 7, 1941 we play Robert Russell Bennett’s arrangement “Victory At Sea” Symphonic Scenerio, composed by Richard Rodgers. For just pure musical enjoyment “Bacchanale” from Saint Sean’s “Sampson & Delilah” is next on the program. In returning to the “Holiday” theme of our program we offer Bach’s “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring” in an arrangement by Erik Leidzen. Another selection from Leroy Anderson”s “Irish Suiteis “The Rakes of Mallow” which we offer next on the program. “A Christmas Festival” by Anderson is our last number on our program.

As in every National Concert Band performance we conclude our program with “Armed Forces Medley” in which we salute all veterans, past and present, of our armed forces. This is always followed by our signature song...”This Is My Country.”

This season we are performing an Encore, something we have not done in seasons past. Our Encore for this program will be the holiday favorite “Sleigh Ride” by Leroy Anderson.
