SPRING CONCERT IN THE PARK PROGRAM ON SUNDAY, MARCH 3, 2019 AT 3 PM

In our third subscription concert performance of our 2018-2019 season, the National Concert Band of America takes you back to memories of community band concerts in the park where the musical program presented offered music to satisfy everyone’s taste. This concert will take place at Carl Sandburg Middle School, 8428 Fort Hunt Road, Alexandria VA 22308 on Sunday, March 3, 2019 at 3 PM.

After our usual Opener and National Anthem, Associate Conductor Bill Terry and the National Concert Band of America offer a “different” concert march by Jay Chattaway entitled “Parade of the Tall Ships.” Following this is one of the great pieces of wind band literature, “Celebration Overture” by Paul Creston. It’s encore is the “Zacateus March” by Thurston. Offering something “lighter” in musical entertainment we offer Morton Gould’s second movement from his American Symphonette #2, “Pavanne.”. John Phillip Sousa’s march – “New York Hippodrome March” is next on the program. Leroy Anderson’s “The Girl In Satin” which was written in 1953 offers a complete change of pace with a melody in a tango rhythm. Warren Barker’s “Broadway Show-Stoppers Overture” completely changes our musical offerings in this afternoon’s program. Our final selection is another staple of wind band music, “Incantation and Dance” by John Barnes Chance.

As in every National Concert Band performance we conclude our program with “Armed Forces Medley” in which we salute all veterans, past and present, of our armed forces. This is always followed by our signature song...”This Is My Country.”

This season we are performing an Encore, something we have not done in seasons past. Our Encore for this program is an audience participation number usually heard at New Years celebrations in Europe – “Radetzky March” by Strauss.
